New York - CNN network executives apologized yesterday and said they were “embarrassed” after their anchors and on-air reporters mistook ISIS’ invasion of the Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp, just off the Syrian border, for a gay pride parade.

According to footage since pulled from CNN’s website, war correspondents Nancy Rawls and Donald Morton incorrectly identified a gun battle between Islamic militants and Palestinian refugee freedom fighters as “a fabulous moment for the LGBT community,” confusing Kalashnikovs with dildos that shoot glitter.

CNN anchor Andrew Graham then compounded the error by mistaking a burning orphanage for a float filled with recently married lesbian teachers.

“In hindsight, this should not have happened,” network President Jeff Zucker said in a written statement. “I also apologize for our news team referring to a U.S. drone strike in Pakistan as a gay bar mitzvah, and for what we now know to have been an erroneous report that Osama bin Laden was wearing leather chaps at the time of his death.”

Harold Doland, CNN’s Ombudsman, said that he had rigorously investigated whether a gay pride parade had even been scheduled for Yarmouk the weekend of the ISIS assault, and found no listings on Facebook. He cautioned, however, that did not mean that there wasn’t a gay pride parade being held, because “it could have been an underground thing.”

Nevertheless, he admitted that the network had been in error. “Many experts we’ve consulted have pointed out that ISIS does not wear rainbow body paint, and we have noted this for future reference,” Doland said. “Also, it appears that gay parades are not nearly so well armed. Except Houston Pride, of course – but we still should have caught the mistake.”

Zucker emphasized the network’s ongoing commitment to accuracy, “or as close to it as we can come, given our commitment to other things. I'm also sorry we mistook Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi for Lady Bear."

He added: “But all America can be sure that, when we correct ourselves, we will probably get it right the second or third time. That’s a promise.”

Meanwhile, Fox News is claiming that over 150,000 Palestinian refugees have fled Yarmouk because ISIS is forcing them into mandatory same-sex unions. The network is standing behind that report.
