Study Shows Increase in Dating Site Signups in the Spring Due to "Spring Dating Fever"

Last week, we told you that springtime is breakup time, according to a study done by the dating app Coffee Meets Bagel. This sudden springtime surge in splits is apparently due, at least in part, to restless college kids on spring break and also, for some reason, people thinking April Fool's Day is a good day to end things with their S/O. Also last week, the San Francisco-based dating app Zoosk published an infographic showing that spring is the busiest time of year for Zoosk sign-ups and activity within the app, in comparison to the rest of year.

From analyzing a group of 9.6 conversations between Zoosk users in the U.S., and by looking at 850,000 different signups to see when each one occurred, Zoosk found that 34 percent more messages are sent every day during the springtime than in any other season.

There are also  28 percent more "deep" conversations started daily than there were during other times of the year. The infographic specifies that any conversation in which each participating user sent at least two messages counts as "deep." Technically, this means that, for example, "hi" "hey" "DTF?" "yep" would count as a deep conversation, so we aren't sure about the validity of that classification, but we digress.

The study also found that 11 percent more new users registered for a Zoosk account per day during the spring months than in any other season.

Joan Barnard, Zoosk's dating and relationship expert, calls this influx of activity "spring dating fever."

So what is it about spring that makes people suddenly want to join a dating site and/or send more messages? We think it probably has a lot to do with all the breakups that supposedly happen in the springtime months. You know what they say, the best way to get over someone is to... ask random strangers on the Internet if they're "DTF?" Yeah, sure. Something like that.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
