500 Brunches Teams Up With Mr. Marina to Hold Brunch Fundraiser This Saturday

For the past three years, the Mr. Marina competition has been an outlet to ogle buff dudes in swimsuits, but it's also been benefitting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

And this year, 500 Brunches, a platform for people to connect with others over breakfast foods, is teaming up with Mr. Marina contestant Zac Sean to hold a brunch this Saturday in the Marina to raise money for Sean's campaign.

And, yeah — a brunch held at a bar in the Marina to benefit what is essentially a beauty contest is basically the broiest and "Marina" thing ever, but remember, the aforementioned beauty contest is benefitting a good cause.

500 Brunches founder Julie Krafchick has been involved with LLS in the past, and both she and Sean had friends who had cancer.

"It’s a cause that I personally feel really strongly about," says Krafchick.

She also said she thought the brunch would appeal to "people who are looking for a great Saturday and also an opportunity to give back."

Sean decided to enter the competition this year after losing his friend to cancer.

"I thought I could make fun of myself on stage and make money for the cause at the same time," says Sean. "Some people think the contest is a little silly, and that's part of it, it's about having fun."

Brianna Haag, a board member for the LLS, started Mr. Marina in 2012 to raise money for the organization.

"It was supposed to be a one-off event, but it was so much fun and raised so much money for the cause that I brought it back," says Haag.

And since 2012, Mr. Marina has raised $335K for LLS. This year, Haag says she expects around 1400 people to show up for the event.

"It's exciting to see how excited each of the guys get," says Haag.

The brunch will be held this coming Saturday, February 7, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at The Brick Yard in the Marina, which Sean co-owns.

Tickets for the brunch are $35, which includes food, a mimosa, and a donation for Sean's campaign; if you're looking for a brunch buddy to attend the event with, there's always 500 Brunches.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
