We associate the Marina (in part) with drunk former-sorority girls wearing tight yoga pants and holding an overpriced drink, but according to a recent study by Yelp and the online dating site Zoosk, the Marina is home to the most attractive singles over the age of 35. The most attractive singles under the age of 35 are, according to the study, are not in San Francisco at all, but across the bay in West Oakland.

Zoosk says it collected data from 146,020 profiles in San Francisco, LA, New York, Chicago, and Atlanta to determine which neighborhoods in each city were home to the “most attractive” single people. And once Zoosk determined the “hottest” neighborhoods in each city, Yelp picked their favorite places to have a first date in each neighborhood (The Beer Shed at the Dock in West Oakland for singles under 35, and Causwell’s in the Marina for singles over 35).

Also, San Francisco, as a whole, is among the 30 best U.S. cities for dating, according to WalletHub's list of "2014's Best and Worst Cities for Singles." The list ranks San Francisco 26 out of 150 U.S. cities for best city for single people to meet other single people; San Jose ranks at 47, and Oakland comes in at 95. The city that claimed the top spot is Boise, Idaho, and coming in last place is Yonkers, New York. (Really, Idaho? The same state that's searching for Thomas Kinkade paintings on eBay?)

To get data for their study, WalletHub analyzed data from the 150 U.S. cities with the largest populations to see which cities had the best-priced movie theaters, restaurants, etc., as well as the most potential for “fun” dates. The study also counted up the number of online and mobile dating options each city has. (San Francisco is, unsurprisingly, on their list of the cities with the highest meal costs, and also one of the top five cities with the highest amount of bars and clubs per capita.)

If you’re a straight, single man and you live in San Francisco, you live in one of the top ten best U.S. cities to meet straight, single women, according to a November 2014 study by DatingAdvice.com. The study consulted the 2010 U.S. census to find out which U.S. cities have the highest percentages of single women. The study ranked San Francisco tenth out of 15 U.S. cities for men to meet women — New York, of course, ranked first. With 184,548 single women, San Francisco was ranked right above San Jose on the list (165,259 single women).

Overall, San Francisco does pretty well as far as dating goes. But if you're just not into it, there's always Boise.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
