When the Hook-Up Truck coasted into the Bay Area last spring, its creator, conceptual artist Spy Emerson, felt most of the press coverage was missing the point.

"No one really talked about the concept. It was more about having a truck to have sex in...Only a few people actually spoke to me," she says. "No one wanted to hear about my personal investment in the truck."

To be fair, the truck lends itself to sensational headlines. A street-roaming, art-focused, condom-providing flatbed-truck offering a mobile place for San Franciscans to have sex? With a concept so jarring, it can be hard to think of the truck as an art piece, capable of conveying any kind of mature, artistic message.

The truck's website calls it "an artistic statement regarding the commodification of, attitudes toward, and media representation of sex... progressively repackaging safe sex and encouraging freedom of expression."

Has this conversation ever happened to you? If the answer is yes, then pay attention. You can now have the comic sensibilities of a funnyman Damon Wayans with all the modern convenience of a Damon Wayans Sr. How? Because they’ve been the same person all along.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
