900 Classic Arcade Games Hit the Internet

Where to begin?! - THE INTERNET ARCHIVE

Kiss productivity goodbye, the Internet Archive has uploaded 900 classic arcade games! You'll never leave the house again!

The Richmond District-based organization has made sure we stay in our pajamas forever by introducing more games than we've ever played before, and for free! Our 1992 selves rejoice! In December 2013 they unveiled their Console Living Room, which contains classic video games; we played so much Frogger our eyes fell out. But since then, they've been in the process of adding classic arcade games from the 1970s through the 1990s under their Internet Arcade section. Some we recognize from our favorite 1980s Straw Hat Pizza Parlor, but most are brand new to us, so obviously we'll be spending all our waking hours working through the levels of gems such as Crush Roller and Congo Bongo.

There's always a been bit of a rift between San Francisco's wide-eyed tourists and its sardonic locals, but The Bay Lights, since its 2013 installation, has managed to bridge that gap. Everyone loves those shimmering strands of light, glittering up and down the expanse of the Bay Bridge, and many San Franciscans have felt the need to be near the water's edge near dusk to catch the exact moment when the Lights flicker on and begin their luminous nocturnal dance over the Bay.

Photos from the Dia de los Muertos Celebration

Posted By on Mon, Nov 3, 2014 at 8:45 AM

Last night people filled the streets of the Mission District in the area surrounding Garfield Square to celebrate Dia de los Muertos. For those unfamilair with the Day of the Dead holiday, it may seem a bit morbid, but it's in fact an uplifting time — a time to celebrate and remember loved ones who have passed on. Donning skull makeup and creating altars to remember those who have passed on, as dusk fell the crowds spilled into the streets for the precession to remember the dead. Check out all our photos of the event on our slideshow page.

Welcome to Bay of the Living Dead, a monthly column dedicated to the horror genre.

Jason V. Brock has spent his life immersed in the horror genre. Not content to wile away his time watching classic chillers on DVD or attending conventions, Brock parlayed his love of the genre into a career. Now he's an award winning filmmaker, and a published author.

A few months ago Brock's efforts were rewarded when he won a Rondo Award, the horror world's equivalent of an Oscar. Brock's film The Ackermonster Chronicles tells the life story of Forrest J. Ackerman, the kindly curmudgeon who edited the iconic Famous Monsters of Filmland Magazine from 1958-1983. The film tells a tale that's right out of Brock's own life: Ackerman, a little boy who loved all things horror and sci-fi, grew up to earn a living by working in the genre he loves. The Ackermonster Chronicles was 2013's Rondo Award winner for Best Documentary.

Brock is now promoting A Dark Phantastique, his latest book. He talks to SF Weekly about this other projects he worked on during a life well lived in the Crypt of the Living Dead.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
