On March 2 we'll find out if Academy shoo-in Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto will win the coveted Oscar for their courageous performances in Dallas Buyers Club. Both actors have already received Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Awards for their work in the film. Dallas Buyers Club has also been nominated for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay.
Dallas Buyers Club is the true story of Ron Woodroof (McConaughey), who was given 30 days to live after his doctors diagnosed him with HIV in 1985. Though he appears on the surface to be a white trash escapee from the trailer park, Woodroof was in fact highly intelligent and resourceful.
Judging from the plethora of American reality shows, it would appear that thousands of American citizens would do almost anything to be a reality TV star. From living in a house with people whose behavior is so erratic they call themselves the "bad girls club," to "swapping" wives with a guy they've never met before, to letting a cameraman document every breakup, birth, and bowel movement -- the things people will do for their 15 minutes (or episodes) of fame spans from laughably bizarre to just incredibly embarrassing.
And if letting the entire country participate in your life by watching it on television is apparently acceptable, why not let a bunch of people -- you've never met -- participate in your life by, say, dictating when you get married and where you have your honeymoon, and and then having an entire city watch your marriage ceremony?
We're not sure about this finding. We don't know any 20-something (or young 30-something) straight couples who met in San Francisco (correction: as we were telling our co-workers about this "study," we identified two couples in the office), but beyond them, we know none.
But according to a recent study from NerdWallet, we're wrong, and San Francisco is a great place to be a single, heterosexual woman. This seems odd, as it was only in 2012, that a study by Men's Health found San Francisco was a great place to be a guy -- because of all the single women.
So let's breakdown a few of these items they used to rank us as the top spot to be a single woman:
