Chris Fairbanks Brings Awkward Comedy to San Francisco: Tonight and Tomorrow!

Posted By on Tue, Feb 26, 2013 at 6:00 AM

Tonight, Town Criers presents comedian Chris Fairbanks Live at Milk Bar in the Haight.

This weekly showcase, produced by local comic Eric Barry, has been featuring the best of Bay Area comedians and the occasional national headliner for over a year, since its debut in December 2011. Barry saw the great potential for comedy in this space, which has the cool vibe of a 90s rock club, instead of the typical red-brick basement of a comedy club.

Based on an eager crowd and a regularly quality lineup, no doubt boosted by Barry's ability to stagger top national acts with local headliners, the show was quickly recognized among local comics as a top show to perform on.

This week, Milk Bar welcomes LA-based actor and comedian Chris Fairbanks, a favorite in the independent ("alt") comedy scene. Chris comes to the humble stage in the Haight with a robust list of credits, including appearances on Comedy Central, Last Comic Standing, Comedy Bang Bang, Conan, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and more. Fairbanks' unique, neurotic comedy carries an audience of any ilk through a fast-paced, and at times absurd, journey of self-effacing stories and musings.

Alongside Fairbanks at Milk will be San Francisco's Casey Ley, Caitlin Gill, Sean Keane, Eric Barry, and host Matt Lieb. The show starts Feb. 26 at 8 p.m. at Milk Bar, 1840 Haight (at Stanyan). Tickets are $10; get them at Eventbrite.

While in town, Fairbanks will also be hosting How Plastic is YOUR Ocean?, a benefit for 5 Gyres Environmental and Education Programs, Wednesday, February 27, at 6 p.m. at Mighty, 119 Utah (at 15th St.).

Watch a sampling of Fairbanks' stand-up below, and listen to his recent interview on Barry's podcast, Full Disclosure.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
