Etsy is often like a thrift store -- it can require a lot of time and patience to pick through a lot of crap (or more importantly, overpriced crap) to find the really well-crafted gems. In order to take the guesswork out of your valiant attempts to support local artists, each week we provide you with a few awesome shops.

With Valentine's Day behind us, the air is not as heavily saturated with the stench of love, loneliness, and desperation, but that doesn't mean you can't still add a touch of romance to your life. This week's featured artists depict love with sweet elegance and sentiment, and may even leave you gazing wistfully and starry-eyed at the object (person, drink of choice, whatever) of your affection.

Artist Nidhi Chanani's beautiful prints illustrate endearing couples, often against local backdrops such as the Golden Gate Bridge, a Giants game, San Francisco's sloping hills, or even MUNI (which I didn't know could be romantic until just now). Each intimate piece communicates the privately shared joy of being in love in a way that musicals and Hugh Grant can only dream of.

However, if you prefer your romantic art a little less location-specific, the shop also carries a variety of more generalized settings, like dance parties for two (no, not like that) or bedroom scenes (no, not like that!).

In Hearts and All, artist Mitchell Joe draws "little feelings of love" in the form of stick figures and simple messages. These touching drawings are straight from the heart and perfect for new couples and decades-old relationships alike. And really, nothing says love quite like "I'll kill the spiders."

To round out this week's bunch, Tina Tarnoff's papercut art is nothing short of exquisite. The delicate pieces have a seemingly nostalgic allure, and are available in both originals (not prints -- each is cut by hand) and downsized editions turned into jewelry, so you can choose whether to hang the art around your neck or on your wall. Bonus: It looks like the shop's Valentine's Day sale is still on, so get in on the deal while you can!

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
