Remember when being a crazy cat lady was an outsider thing reserved for shut-ins who wore turtlenecks and ankle-length skirts? Now, thanks to YouTube's viral cat charms and the ability to post and share videos of kitties running around in circles with cones on their head and sabotaging their owners, we can all be unabashed feline fans.

Though I'm highly allergic, I am getting used to this idea of loving cats, thanks to my exposure to Acrocats and the incessant adorable videos online. So in the spirit of loving krazy kitties, I stand in solidarity with all felines today -- National Feral Cat Day -- a day dedicated to increasing awareness about feral cats and the importance of the trap-neuter-return philosophy.

In conjunction with this day, Linda Elder, an educational psychologist, president of the Foundation for Critical Thinking, co-author of four books on critical thinking, and 23 thinker's guides, including the Miniature Guide to Critical Thinking for Children, comes out with a children's book called Fairminded Fran and the Three Small Black Community Cats. It's a book that introduces broader themes of community by telling a tale of the plight of feral cats. The story's protagonist is Fairminded Fran, a young girl who finds three small, black cats living behind her school; her concern for the cats' well-being prompts her to search for ways to help care for them.

Elder, a leading authority on critical thinking, says, "When students learn critical thinking in connection with important issues like those surrounding community cats, they come to see, increasingly over time, the value in fair-minded critical thought. When we as a society value fair-minded critical thinking in every domain of human life and thought, we will begin to create fair-minded critical societies." How's that for education?

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
