Two S.F. Entrepreneurs to Be Honored by Martha Stewart

We never needed a reason to be hopelessly in love with Martha Stewart. The crafts! The recipes! The hair! But we'll throw a bone to those of you who aren't already on the Martha S. bandwagon (made with recycled milk crates and decorated with autumn leaves). This Fall, Martha will be honoring two of San Francisco's most inspiring entrepreneurs: Flora Grub Gardens and Cup4Cup in her first annual celebration of lifestyle entrepreneurs.

The Mother of all D.I.Y. is launching "American Made" -- a celebration of artists, artisans, and entrepreneurs around the country. This multi-media program will honor 15 businesses who are changing the face of food, furniture, gardening, crafts, and design, with a huge spread in the November issue of Martha Stewart Living.

Flora Grub Gardens is hands-down one of the most peaceful and stunningly beautiful shops in the city. We're going to do this easy way and simply list our favorite things about this place, in order of love. Number one is that the shop is named after the owner and yes, that is totally her real name. Number two, the java. A Ritual Coffee outpost is tucked conveniently into Flora Grub's so you can stroll the grounds while sipping some of the finest grounds around. The number three reason(s) are the succulents. Vertical, horizontal, weightless -- you name it, she's got it and she's got it hung up as part of a crazy beautiful installation. Martha couldn't have chosen a more deserving business and we are so proud that she will be featured in November's issue of Martha Stewart Living.  You can also learn more at Martha's website


The second Bay Area business that will be honored by "American Made" is Cup4Cup -- a gluten-free flour company that got it's start in the exquisite and way-out-of-our-budget restaurant, French Laundry. Chef Lena Kwak took her passion for nutritional science and developed a gluten-free flour that could replace gluten-full flour cup for cup, hence the name. With the help of Thomas Keller, Kwak has brought her flour to Williams-Sonoma and has made bread available again for a seemingly ever-growing population of gluten-intolerant people. Kwok is changing the face of food for sure.  Check her out on Martha's website.

We are so stoked that San Francisco is host to two entrepreneurs that Martha Stewart finds inspiring and we are so proud of Flora Grub's and Cup4Cup. Also, if you are going to be around the NYC area on October 17-18, be sure to hit up Vanderbilt Hall at the Grand Central Terminal for the party including how-to workshops by the lady herself.

Because before there was Etsy, there was Martha.

The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
