Show Your Love for the City's Art with this Photo Contest

Posted By on Wed, Sep 26, 2012 at 10:01 AM

Calling all Instagram lovers, which judging from my Facebook feed, is everyone and their mom's dog.

Show off your badass tilt and shift skills with this contest that also celebrates local artists and studios. Part of the month-long SF Open Studios event, the San Francisco Travel Association (our official tourism org. Did you know we had one?) wants to encourage your support of the arts through self-guided tours and Instagram photos. Here's the skinny:

During the month of October (technically Sept. 27-Nov. 4), visit one of the dozens of SF Open Studio locations in the city which are featuring 900 (!) emerging and established artists, take some amazing photos (be sure to ask the artist/studio if it's okay first), tag the photo #SFOS in the caption, and voila! Your photo might be selected and displayed on the San Francisco Travel Association's website, and if you really blow them away, you might win this "Stay & Play" package, which includes:

  • An overnight stay at the Orchard Garden Hotel

  • $100 dining certificate

  • Two VIP tickets to ArtSpan's Benefit Art Auction on March 23, 2013

  • Two CityPASS booklets with entry to Aquarium of the Bay, California Academy of Sciences, Blue & Gold Fleet Bay Cruise, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Exploratorium or de Young Museum and a 7-day Muni/Cable Car Passport

  • A pair of tickets to each of the following: Asian Art Museum, Contemporary Jewish Museum, de Young Museum, Legion of Honor, Walt Disney Family Museum and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and four tickets to the Exploratorium at the Palace of Fine Arts.

Further contest rules and information are available here.

So go out some weekends in October, see some amazing art, impress a date with your photo app savvy, and maybe, just maybe, you'll win more than his or her heart.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
