Local Comedian's Weight Loss Secret: Life-Threatening Illness

Posted By on Wed, Aug 22, 2012 at 10:56 AM

Two years ago, Queenie TT, also known as Kamane' Malvo Marshall, weighed well over 400 pounds. She performed stand-up while sitting down, with a cane, and was sick with Acute Hypothyroidism Stage II Lymphedema. On August 25, 2011, she received duodenal switch gastric bypass surgery in San Francisco, and a year later, she's ready to celebrate!

Queenie TT will perform live at the historic Purple Onion Saturday, August 25 to celebrate the life-changing weight-loss surgery. The show is produced by local producer Jabari Davis and includes an ethnically diverse lineup of Bay Area comedians: Justin Lucas, Lilibeth Helson, T'kia, Michelle Peck, and Jasmine Price.

That's not all Queenie is up to lately. She and her husband Steven were recently cast on the classic game show, The Newlywed Game on Game Show Network. The show was taped this month and will air in November. Queenie is also the author of the novel Praise Be to the Plus-Sized Sister, host of the popular web series, The Crazy Fabulous Show, a comedic actor, plus-size model, motivational speaker, and a body esteem educator.

Queenie TT is a bedrock member of The Plus-Sized Sister Movement, which offers size-positive entertainment in and around the Bay Area. The company promotes the beauty and relevance of full-figured women through size-positive comedy, motivational speaking, literature, and fashion in order to empower women of all shapes and sizes to fully embrace "the power of faith, self-esteem, and self-confidence." Through their work, PSSM aims to combat prejudice on three fronts: race, gender, and size.

Celebrate with Queenie TT, Jabari Davis, and friends at The Purple Onion, 140 Columbus Avenue, San Francisco, on August 25 at 10 p.m. Tickets are $20.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
