S.F. Street Fashion: Colorful Denim

Every store I've walked into lately is offering an array of colored denim -- neon, pastel, primary -- you name it and they have it. With the trend so dominant in stores, it's obviously going to show up on the street as well. I was excited to see so many pairs of colorful jeans this week; San Franciscans love their denim, so it's nice to see them switching things up a bit. The brighter shades are also a welcome addition to our usually black and gray collective wardrobe.

It made me curious -- are there any die-hard blue jean lovers out there who hate this trend? Or have all of you rushed to the store and stocked up on a rainbow array of pants for spring? Look at a few pairs of colored jeans I spotted on the street this week and let me know what you think.

These ladies are keeping the San Francisco fashion tradition alive with their black and gray ensembles. However, they got a little pop of color in with those cute shoes.

How adorable are these two, holding it down for traditional denim? I love that they've dressed to match, each one sporting a gray hoodie and light-wash jacket. (They're also the first hecklers who I've photographed -- many people on the street spot my camera and yell, "Take my picture!" But these two are the first to do it who weren't wearing sweatpants.)

The face-off begins: neon versus regular wash. Both girls have an almost identical outfit (basic white tee, cardigan, oxford-style flats) except for their pants. Which outfit would you rather wear?

This gent has relegated his bright colors to his shoelaces and his killer S.F. letterman jacket. His jeans exemplify another trend in denim -- waxed jeans. The pants (usually black) are coated with a wax that makes them shine like leather but allows them to remain a little more breathable and flexible.

Her outfit exhibits the perfect use for colored denim: Without those yellow pants, she'd be head-to-toe blue denim, with a bad '80s vibe. The yellow freshens up the look and keeps it from being monotonous.

Even if San Franciscans aren't ready for bright pants, they could always use a little color somewhere else. Her bright-red blazer pushes her outfit over the edge from appealing to interesting. (Also, someone please send me a pair of these amazing rain boots!)

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
