"Unite, workers, unite!" shouts Eugene V. Debs.

Let's apply a bit of right-wing logic to Labor Day. First, it's a federal holiday that recognizes people in the work force. Second, it probably came about because of unions, which once were a powerful force in our proud nation. Third, labor unions have been the G.O.P.'s public enemy No. 1 since before the dinosaurs had the run of Nob Hill and Twin Peaks. "Socialists! Socialists!" chants Mr. Republican. And he's not 100 percent wrong. One of the first major labor organizers was Eugene V. Debs, who ran for president representing the Socialist Party of America.

Our quesion, then, is why haven't Dick Armey, Tom DeLay, and the late Jesse Helms outlawed this holiday? Why hasn't the Tea Party started some "Go to work anyway!" campaign to show just what they'll do to crush the Red Menace?

We don't know. But we do know we won't be here Monday. Instead we'll be celebrating Labor Day. Thanks, Eugene.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
