March Madness for the Arty

Posted By on Mon, Mar 14, 2011 at 3:00 PM

Tonight's Isadora Duncan Dance Awards ceremony is classic Bay Area art love; it's a good idea with high standards and lovely gravitas; this is the 25th annual. But someone should handicap it. If it's already a competition, couldn't there be a tree chart to keep track of who advances? You'd have to just make up who was competing against who, because in reality, dance isn't inherently competitive. But spank reality. And if Gawker's Jezebel can do this, someone could make hay in the dance world, right? Anyway, the Izzies are awards that people are actually proud to be given, and which actually stand for quality, so it's going to be fun to see 'em handed out!

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
