Selene Luna was raised in Southern California but maintains a deep connection to San Francisco. She's a friend of Margaret Cho. She loves the city's gay community. ("Gay men made me the woman I am today," she says. "Most importantly, they taught me how to give a great blowjob ... and that's something that will stay with me always.") The dynamic comedian, writer, burlesque dancer, and actress who stands less than four feet tall even built and brought a friend with her during a recent S.F. appearance - it was a "gorgeous, giant robot" named Robopriest who helped her "marry" her largely queer audience to the fact that she's also a hopeless "hetero sci-fi geek."
Her latest project is a TV show called Selene's Hollywood Confidential. It's an online soap opera that chronicles the daily lives of Luna and her self-proclaimed misfit showbiz friends. Its first episode went live today.According to Luna's blog, she's had the idea practically forever but couldn't persuade television executives to put up the money to produde it. So she took on the task herself and went to Kickstarter to raise the cash.
"It works for artists in the music industry, so why not me?" she writes on her blog. "In addition, I've come to realize there's something refreshing about fans having a direct say in the art they support."
She exceeded her funding goal of $5,000, hired a professional crew, and began shooting in the fall. The soap is a three-episode mini-series.
