We love Annie Sprinkle. And we love Carol Queen. The two women have spent their lives and careers to promoting openness about sexuality and beating back the onslaught of fundamentalist blowhards who'd lock up everyone who's ever had an impure thought if they could. Plus, they're each really fun to be around. And they have great ideas - like Nude Aid, an event taking place Saturday that mixes nudity, art, a social setting, and a great cause.

The "aid" part is for the Center for Sex and Culture, the nonprofit group that Carol started with her longtime partner (and fellow sex educator) Robert Lawrence. Among the events that take place there are erotic reading circles, erotic film screenings, a discussion salon on sexuality, art shows, benefits, and the occasional memorial service.

The "nude" part of Nude Aid works like this: People watch a fabulous group of local artists depict an equally fabulous group of people who are either, well, nude or dressed in whatever type of fetish gear they like. The artists on hand draw, paint, sculpt, and photograph the lovely collection of volunteer models. (There's also rumored to be body prints, and knowing Carol, Annie, and Robert - especially Annie - we believe it.) Each person who pays the $20-$40 to get in gets to take home a piece of the art.

The center will also set up a table with collage supplies, so people who attend can create art of their own - say, maybe a Valentine for their special someone (or someones).

Afterward, the center will present a group show as well as awards for the CSC Photo Club, which uses the center to work and collaborate on erotic photography.

Artists include Charles Gatewood, Cary Friedman, Mark D. Powers, Tiffany Lin, Guy Dots, LissaIvy, Dorian, Chris Kelsey, Amanda Vissering, and Yvette Deas.

Models include Jiz Lee, Qatana, Mighty Model Marc, and Alexander Adam II (who calls himself Model Citi-Zen of the Earth for a Statue of Liberty).

People who've donated art and other eclectic items for a drawing include Dottie Lux, Nancy Peach, and Chuck Stevens.

Lawrence says Nude Aid has been the center's most successful fundraising effort to date. Past guests, models, and artists include Leonard Nimoy, Nina Hartley, Sharon Mitchell, Winston Smith, and Eric Kroll.

Nude Aid starts at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Center for Sex and Culture.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
