Faith No More's second coming

It's been assumed for some time that pop-cultural nostalgia runs on a 20-year clock. There was a tame 1950s revival in the '70s with Grease and Sha Na Na. Various appropriations of hippieism took over the '80s, even as original…

Listomania: Top Metal Picks For 2009

This year was such a good one for heavy music, I wound up having to cheat when putting this list together. I just couldn't settle on ten albums that kicked my ass the hardest in 2009; there were dozens of…

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga's ear for pop hooks and eye for unsettling imagery have landed her atop the creatively moribund U.S. pop scene like a queen stalking a smoldering battlefield. Shrugging her off as a mere magpie assembling a momentarily diverting spectacle…

Marduk

Though the members of Marduk have been heroes on the Scandinavian black metal scene since forming in 1990, the band hasn't done a full U.S. tour since 2001. Now is the perfect time to see the group, though, as its…

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
