Cannibal Ox: Show Preview

Underground hip-hop used to be a long swim upstream. It meant jostling from accusatory critics — how many times was the "granola" tag leveled at El-P or Aesop Rock? — and mystification from consumers. Cannibal Ox was the high priest…

Van Hunt: Show Preview

Two years ago, Maxwell drew widespread hysteria from R&B nerds when he released the sleekly sexy BLACKsummers'night. R. Kelly's back-to-basics Love Letter was greeted with critical raves last winter. Yet somehow the equally soulful Van Hunt remains overlooked. That wasn't…

Iceage: Show Preview

Discomfited teenagers have been belting out fiery rock tunes for generations. But there is something very novel about Iceage. The Danish punk quartet first drew attention in January, when its album New Brigade saw a limited release in Scandinavia. But…

Moe Green, Vallejo's Everyman Rapper, Plays S.F. Tonight

Moe Green is just like you. He detests his job, for one thing. He struggles with insecurities both personal and professional. Occasionally, the 23-year-old feels undone by matters out of his control, like his age and relative lack of…

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday.
