Last Friday, Thomas Allen Green walked into a federal building in downtown San Francisco wearing a makeshift cardboard sign around his neck with "TERRORIST" written in thick black marker. Above the word, in smaller letters, he'd written, "Take me off…

For Love of Boonville

When we first heard about the literary festival Litquake, we were suspect of it, mainly because of the name. "Litquake" has that good-and-good-for-you spin -- à la "Rock the Vote," "Safe Sex Is Hot Sex," and "Fruit Is Nature's Candy"…

Dining at the White House For some reason, Dog Bites has been consumed of late by food, drink, and the increasing prospect that sanity is returning to the nation's political realm. It started on a sunny Mission District afternoon on…

What's in a Name

Dog Bites felt bad for the San Francisco Bay Guardian last week. No, not the nauseated-bad that can result from reading the publication, but pity-bad -- the way you feel watching the shy, zit-infested guy stand against the wall at…

The Dog Bites Audition: Les Misérables

We could run, but we couldn't hide. There it was, right there on our computer screen: "THE BROADWAY NATIONAL TOUR OF LES MISÉRABLES TO HOLD OPEN AUDITIONS -- TO BE HELD AT THE SAN FRANCISCO BALLET MONDAY JUNE 6." This…

Valley of All the Pretty Horses

It's opening day at Golden Gate Fields, and we're faced with our first gamble: Are we going to pay $7 for valet parking and be a big shot? Or are we going to get back on the freeway and drive…

A Star Isn't Born. Still.

So we called in sick to our Saturday day job from hell last week, spent gas and bridge-toll money, and trekked back down to Beach Blanket Babylon Boulevard to continue our musical quest to find health insurance -- again. The…

Getting Over

Reality television comes off best when it's peeled down to its core of fun-to-watch hysteria and emotional self-indulgence. Remove the immunity challenges of Survivor, the boardroom meetings of the now-unwatchable The Apprentice, and the awe-inspiring photo shoots of America's Next…

  • clipping at Brava Theater Sept. 11
Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
