The Devil Makes Three at the Independent

Triclops! isn't your parents' prog

Ten-minute songs? Check. Psychedelic soundscapes? Check. A singer with a nostalgic love for role-playing games? Check. While a "progressive" genre descriptor often conjures negative associations with washed-up, Geddy Lee–adoring Guitar Center employees, in the case of local quartet Triclops!, the…

Frightened Rabbit

While the name Frightened Rabbit conjures up disheartening images of timid waifs lamenting lost love with Hallmark diction, this Scottish act packs quite a bite. Sure, the group uses an acoustic guitar accompanied by a trembling voice and has ample…

Music, Hear This Mogwai

Mogwai

Despite stylistic differences, Glasgow's Mogwai and Los Angeles' Dead Meadow both make music that lends itself to mind-altering substances. Since 1996, Mogwai has been crafting epic instrumental soundscapes with songs that stretch well beyond five minutes. The band stacks atmospheric…

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
