Officer Gordon Shyy says that at abut 8 p.m. the boy was on the 1600 block of McKinnon Ave. tossing his ball around when it hit a 65-year-old man in the head. The man confronted the kid who then ran home to tell his mom.
The mother brought her son back to the scene, but not to apologize for his actions.
Instead the 31-year-old mother began egging on an assault, telling her son to hit the victim with a baseball bat. As the child was taking swings at the man, the mother joined in the assault, slapping the defenseless victim, Shyy says. "The mother did not take any opportunity to stop her child from assaulting the victim. The mother was encouraging the child during the assault," Shyy tells us.
The police were called out to the scene and the boy was hauled to juvenile hall while his mother was taken to County jail; both were booked on charges of aggravated assault.
The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
A 10-year-old boy and his mother were booked into jail after allegedly assaulting a older man who reprimanded the boy for throwing his ball at him.
