Ava Black Identified as Woman Killed in Apartment Fire

Posted By on Mon, Jul 28, 2014 at 7:51 AM

Medical authorities this morning say it was 61-year-old Ava Black who died when her apartment caught on fire early Friday morning.

At about 5:10a.m. on Friday, fire crews were called out to 55 Chumasero Drive, a high-rise complex in Park Merced, where a small fire was burning and smoke was blanketing the unit. They quickly found Black's body amid the heavy smoke and clutter that filled the apartment. Deputy Chief Mark Gonzales later confirmed that it appeared to be "hoarding situation" inside the apartment.
Black, a San Francisco resident, was confirmed dead at the scene.

Residents living inside the high-rise building told reporters that the victim had lived there alone for the last 20 years, and that she mostly kept to herself.

Firefighters are still investigating the exact cause of the blaze.

The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
