A 35-year-old man was stabbed by a group of guys as he attempted to intervene in an alleged assault against a woman inside a North Beach restaurant early this morning.
The crime happened at about 4 a.m. when two groups of people were dining inside an eatery on the 600 block of Broadway. A man and a woman belonging to one group got into a verbal argument which reportedly escalated into an assault, according to police.
A man who was with the second group of people heard what sounded like the woman, who turned out to be a friend of his, being assaulted. So he intervened, attempting to break up the attack.
That only escalated things; both groups quickly got involved in the fight, and soon the intervening man was being jumped by five other men, who then stabbed him, according to Officer Gordon Shyy.
Nobody was arrested, and the victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he's expected to survive.
That should make for an interesting Yelp review.
