San Francisco police have made an arrest in the violent robbery and assault that took place in the Castro district during the very early morning hours of June 30, just hours after Pink Saturday festivities.

Christopher Porter-Bailey, 23 of Oakland, was arrested on July 26. He is one of the subjects of a police investigation looking into several robberies that were reported in the area of Market and Castro streets that evening around 1:50 a.m.

Police say that Porter-Bailey was identified through surveillance video in which the victim, a 28-year-old San Francisco woman, was robbed of her purse and knocked to the ground. When she sat up momentarily, police say they believe it was Porter-Bailey who viciously kicked her in the face so hard she was knocked unconscious.

SFPD Officer Albie Esparza said that three other suspects from the group that was seen on camera had already been arrested later that same day.

Porter-Bailey's mug shot will not be released to the public yet, as Esparza says the police are continuing their investigation into whether Porter-Bailey and the other identified suspects were involved in any more robberies and assaults that were reported that same night.

Porter-Bailey was arraigned on Monday, and is facing charges of second-degree robbery with an allegation of great bodily injury, assault with force likely to cause bodily injury, and battery with serious bodily injury. His next court date is set for Aug. 9.

Meanwhile, Supervisor Scott Wiener has called for a community meeting in the Castro District tonight along with DA George Gascón and Police Chief Greg Suhr to discuss the recent attacks and other crime in the neighborhood. It will be held at the Eureka Valley Rec Center on Collingwood Street.
