Eric Avila Identified as Man Stabbed to Death in Potrero Hill; Homicide No. 68 (Update)

Update 1:41 p.m.: Medical authorities identified the man who was killed as 52-year-old Eric Avila, a San Francisco resident.

Original story: 10:45 a.m.: An unidentified man died yesterday morning after he was slashed in the neck for unknown reasons.

According to police, the victim was at 25th and Connecticut streets at about 1:58 a.m. where he was talking with another unidentified man.

Witness said they saw the suspect swing an unknown object at the victim who immediately collapsed with a laceration to the neck. Police later identified the object as a knife.

The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police had no further details about the suspect.
