Stoney Whetstone Identified as Driver Killed Near the Metreon

Medical authorities have identified the man who was shot to death while sitting in a car in the SOMA neighborhood this weekend as 28-year-old Stoney Whetstone.

The crime happened about 2:41 a.m. on Sunday when Whetstone, a Union City resident, was sitting with another man inside a parked at the corner of Fourth and Mission streets. Someone fired shots at the two, killing Whetstone instantly, according to police.

The passenger, also in his late 20s, was rushed to the hospital and treated. As of yesterday, he was expected to survive.
