CBS News brings us this insane report about another iPad robbery, and this is one story reporters didn't have to chase.
The incident started at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, when an unidentified man hopped out of a Mercedes SUV and ripped a backpack, with an iPad inside, from a woman sitting outside a Peet's Coffee shop in Lower Pacific Heights.
The thief got back inside the car, with two others inside, and sped off.
Witnesses called police, who were hot on the trail of the suspected Mercedes, Capt. Ann Mannix told CBS News.
The alleged robbers took off at high speed, hitting a motorcycle, a minivan, and finally a KPIX van as they
tried to get away. The TV crew notified their assignment desk, and colleagues were quickly on the way, a CBS staffer told the Chron. Ironically enough, the news crew had been prepping to cover a community safety meeting with police
officials and city supervisors "in light of a recent string of cell-phone muggings and criminal activity."
The chaotic crash ended in the Western Addition in front of a playground, where one child was injured by flying debris, according to press reports. One other person was injured and taken to the hospital, and is now in stable condition.
The suspects jumped out of the car, and ran, but they didn't get far before police arrested them, Mannix told reporters. We'll update you when we have the names of the suspects. But you can catch a glimpse of them from this CBS camera crew that was on the scene.
