Cops will be on the prowl for drunk drivers again tonight as they finish the last leg of their 18-day DUI crackdown through Labor Day weekend.
The police really hope that you don't go overboard with the booze to celebrate the long weekend, which Capt. Denis O'Leary ranks third most dangerous date for roadway injuries and deaths, behind Memorial Day and Independence Day (boozers!).
"We want to keep the public safe from the property damage, injuries and deaths that impaired drivers so often cause," O'Leary said. "Driving drunk or high is not a mere error in judgment; it is a criminal act."
So here's what you can expect from the SFPD the rest of the weekend:
- Cops will be stationed on the Embarcadero near Broadway tonight checking for drunk drivers for a unspecified amount of time.
- A final DUI checkpoint is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 2, also on the Embarcadero near Broadway.
And don't think you are being clever by avoiding these routes after a night of heavy drinking; The California Highway Patrol will be roving the roads ready to haul your drunk ass to jail.
Consider yourself warned.
