Just eight hours after two men were killed in a rowdy fight yesterday afternoon, more shots were fired in Visitacion Valley, capping off a three-day spree of gunfire near the Sunnydale housing projects.
Nobody was hurt in last night's drive-by; however, the crime was yet another indication of the neighborhood's rise in violence.
Here's what happened: At 10:22 p.m., a 37-year-old woman was driving at the intersection of Sunnydale and Rey when a white SUV approached the rear of the woman's car and passed her. That's when the suspects in the white SUV fired at a group of people standing on the sidewalk, but missed, hitting the woman's car, said Officer Gordon Shyy.
The SUV sped off, and nobody got a description of the suspects, Shyy said.
Shyy told us that police have no idea if the shooting was related to the afternoon brawl, where two unidentified men were killed. In that incident, police arrived at the unit block of Burr Avenue shortly before 2 p.m. where they found two men dead and a large "hostile crowd" gathered around.
Police say the suspects, who were only described as two men in hoodies, are still on the loose.
On Sunday, 18-year-old Elijah Hopkins was found shot to death behind a row of homes in the Diamond Heights neighborhood. Media reports say Hopkins was known to hang around Burr Avenue.
The three shooting deaths this week bring the city's homicide rate to 44 this year.
