Police now have a little more information about yesterday's shooting that closed down the lower deck of the Bay Bridge for most of the morning, ruining your commute to work.
Antonio Roberson, 29, was taken into custody yesterday morning after his car crashed near the S-Curve as police chased him across the lower deck of the bridge. After the crash, there was gunfire, but police have not yet said who shot what. We can tell you that Roberson, an Oakland resident and parolee, remains in the hospital with minor injuries.
Roberson, who was on parole for false imprisonment for the purpose of human trafficking, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and weapon charges, according to press reports. He will be booked into county jail once he is released from the hospital, police said.
Police say there was a 26-year-old woman from Australia in the car at the time of the high-speed chase. She was also taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries related to the crash. She was released yesterday afternoon.
The chase/crash/shooting occurred at about 2 a.m. on Thursday, forcing investigators to close all but one of the eastbound lanes of the Bay Bridge. Traffic was backed up in San Francisco during the morning commute, even after the California Highway Patrol reopened the lanes to cars at about 10:30 a.m.
