Yesterday, we informed readers about the tragic hit-and-run accident in North Beach that left a 62-year-old man clinging to life. Police are offering up a little more information about the vehicle that was seen fleeing the scene, hoping people will help them find the person responsible.
Sgt. Michael Andraychak says police are looking for a late '90s full-size Chevy SUV (Suburban type). It's white with tinted windows. The license plate is believed to be registered in California, and the last two digits of the license plate are 24.
There may also be front-end damage to the car.
The victim was walking across the street at the busy intersection of
Columbus and Stockton on Saturday at about 11:30 p.m. when the driver, headed north on Columbus, hit the man, police said. The driver then sped off, leaving the victim bleeding on the street.
The man was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where he is still suffering from a life-threatening head injury.
