Federal authorities arrested dozens of local gang members today during a regional raid of two Peninsula-based street gangs, the 500 Block and the C Street Gang.

As reported earlier this morning, three Homeland Security Agents were injured after being shot while making arrests in Petaluma related to this case. A Grand Jury indicted 19 defendants on April 24, leading to today's sweep, said U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag.

Those arrested were charged with racketeering, conspiracy to commit violent crimes, including murder, use of firearms, robbery affecting interstate commerce, and obstruction of justice. If convicted, some of the gang members could receive the death penalty, while others could spend decades behind bars, prosecutors said.

"The 500

Block/C-Street gang members identify as Nortenos and are at war with

Sureno gangs as well as with rival Nortenos," Haag said at a press conference today. " Among the violence the

gang members inflicted on their communities were four attempted murders

in Daly City on December 18, 2010, and three murders and four attempted

murders in South San Francisco on December 22nd, 2010."

Haag said the indictment unsealed today is a "clear message to gang

members that they will be brought to justice for the pain and sorrow

they inflict on their community."

"For the victims and their families

there is nothing we can do to bring their loved ones back, but I hope

that these charges will start to bring them some closure," Haag stated. "The violence must stop."

The defendants are expected to appear in court tomorrow.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
