Authorities say they might have recovered the body of one of the sailors who went missing after a boating accident near the Farallon Islands earlier this month.
Tourists spotted the body at the base of the cliff at
Bodega Head on Tuesday evening, but helicopters couldn't see anything "due to the darkness." On Wednesday morning, authorities went back out there and recovered the remains, which have not yet been identified.
Sonoma County officials say they are working today to find out whether the body could be that of one of the four missing sailors from the Full Crew Farallones Race.
"What we are going to have to do is look through dental records, things like that and go through our missing
persons reports," said Lt. Dennis O'Leary of the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department. "We will also be contacting San Francisco Police Department to find out where they are at in their investigation, and if by chance
this one of the subjects from the accident -- the Farallon Islands."
