Time will tell if Jacobs also plans to go dumb at the sideshow.

The 49ers didn't sign Brandon Jacobs for his speed. They signed him for his power. He's happy to flaunt both, though, as evidenced by his participation in what people are now calling "Death Race 2012."

On March 30, two days after Jacobs signed a $1.6 million contract with the Niners, two New Jersey state troopers escorted the running back and many other sports car enthusiasts on a high-speed romp, through traffic, down the state's Garden State Parkway.

As the New Jersey Star-Ledger first reported on Sunday:

[Witnesses] saw two State Police patrol cars with their emergency lights flashing driving in front of and behind the southbound caravan, which included dozens of Porsches, Lamborghinis, Ferraris and other vehicles, all with their license plates covered with tape. One witness, Wayne Gantt, dubbed the escort "Death Race 2012."

Jacobs, who won two Super Bowls in seven years with the New York Giants, is a collector of sports cars and a member of Driving Force Club, which, according to its website, is "for all car fanatics with a spice of racing and adrenalin rush in their hearts."

According to the reports and complaints from other drivers, the mass of about 25 vehicles weaved through all three lanes and sped past toll booths at more than 100 mph en route to an Atlantic City destination.

Apparently, this was not a unique occurrence. The Star-Ledger posted a video from the 2010 version.

This is the type of activity that can make some people dislike rich people. It's also the type of activity that reminds the rest of us -- in case we need reminding -- how awesome being "police escorting my speeding Lamborghini" rich could be. But there's no question it's a douchey thing to do.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie commented on the matter, saying, per the NY Times, "You don't wake up in the morning and say maybe what will happen today is we'll have state troopers leading Lamborghinis and Porsches down the Parkway at 110 miles per hour and then block intersections for them so they won't have to wait for lights."

The two state troopers have been suspended without pay, Reuters reported yesterday.

Jacobs, meanwhile, will be forced to adjust to the 101 commute. That should be punishment enough.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
