|Mirkarimi supporter Kary McElroy alleges a political conspiracy against the sheriff. |
While Lopez didn't show up this morning, Mirkarimi supporter Kary McElroy did, reiterating the nameless political forces that Lopez has been publicly blasting for trying to take down her husband.
McElroy, in a "Ross for Sheriff" T-shirt, told reporters, "I absolutely believe it's politically motivated, because Ross is standing for the people, the disenfranchised, and the power brokers of this city want to eliminate all liberals and make this for the rich only."
But who wants to eliminate the liberals? McElroy admitted she didn't know. "I can't speak to knowledge I don't have direct evidence of so this is just what I'm going to say about it."
Once a reporter asked about the mayor questioning whether Mirkarimi should remain the sheriff, she then stated,
"I don't really believe the election for mayor or [District Attorney George] Gascón was appropriate or everything was above board, so I don't really believe in their motivations. They're trying to take down a good man who's fought for this city passionately, and intends to do more if we can get past this.... He won a race and now they're sore losers."
The perfunctory hearing lasted less than 5 minutes, the highlight being when the sheriff's deputies threw out a grizzly man in the first row with a camera, who barked, "Nobody told me I couldn't have a camera! Why are you pushing me?"
Meanwhile, the poster in the lobby of the county jail around the corner of the Hall of Justice was too ironic to go unnoticed.
