A 59-year-old man is in critical condition today after he was shot while walking in the Bernal Heights neighborhood Friday night.

According to police, the man was on the 500 block of Alemany Boulevard when the suspect walked up to him and attempted to rob him. As the victim tried to run off, the suspect shot him in the chest.

After the shooting, the suspect ran off in an unknown direction.

The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police had very few details about the incident, and could only say the shooter was described as a black man between 18 and 24 years old.
