The imminent possibility of the Oakland A's signing Hideki "Godzilla" Matsui could certainly fill some holes in the Athletics' lineup.

We'll refrain from recycling the above phrase to make the obvious pun regarding Matsui's other claim to fame: his extensive porn collection.

But the possibility of Matsui toting his legendary collection of nasty videos to the Bay Area makes this no ordinary signing.

The trove o' porn, by the way, isn't just an internet legend. Per Time Asia and writer Robert Whiting, perhaps the English-speaking world's foremost authority on Japanese baseball:

Flash just isn't Matsui's style, even if the conservative [Tokyo] Giants hadn't frowned on such outré displays. Instructed to stay in the team dormitory and refrain from dating during the first several years of his career, so as to devote all his concentration solely to baseball, Matsui agreeably complied, without so much as a whimper. Indeed, his only eccentricity, if it can be called that, is his extensive private library of adult videos. His refreshing ability to laugh self-deprecatingly about his porno collection, reporters say, is one reason why fans and even nonfans have taken to him so much. Says former reporter Isao Hirooka: "Hideki just wants to be like ordinary people."

Hmmm. Wonder what he was doing in the dorm? Here's hoping for a season of porn-related jokes emanating from Oakland's cheap seats.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
