A man suffered every father's nightmare this morning: After he stepped out of his car to fill up at a gas station, a thief leaped in and drove off
-- with the man's 5-year-old daughter in the back seat.
The incident took place at around 5:40 this morning at Imperial and Carlson in the city of Richmond; it is not believed that the thief intended to kidnap the child but just wanted the black 1997 Cadillac Seville with 22-inch gold rims.
That police theory is plausible, as the thief apparently took the very first highway exit to drop off the little girl, who was quickly recovered by authorities.
The purloined car was quickly recovered too, as the thief quickly abandoned it. He remains at large and a manhunt is under way.
