"I'm going to seek the endorsement of everyone," Kim said. Okay, how about Gavin Newsom -- whose endorsement has been the kiss of death in D-6? "I'll ask everyone for their support and endorsement," Kim repeated. Well, you can see where this is going.
Kim's challenger, Debra Walker, was similarly cagey when asked if Daly's goodwill was bad news. "I don't know," she said. "I think everyone has to answer that question for themselves."
Neither Kim nor Walker said they had any inkling of whom Daly preferred. And, so far, Daly hasn't returned our calls. But, for the record, we have it from a reliable source that he's in favor of water.
Update: 9:35 a.m.: Commenter H. Brown wasn't wrong -- we neglected to call candidate Jim Meko. And, in Meko, SF Weekly has finally discovered a progressive candidate for District 6 who would unambiguously appreciate Daly's support.
"The Daly endorsement? I would welcome it. That's the simple answer," said Meko. "Given his record on social justice, that's certainly nothing to be ashamed of. As far as tantrums and profane language and all that, I'll leave that for other people to worry about."
Meko said Daly "talked to all of us" about a potential endorsement "and said he'd hold off until later in the year once the campaign has really gotten under way."
