Phyllis Lyon & Del Martin (right)

Del Martin, longtime Bay Area activist and all around rad lady, passed away today at a San Francisco hospital. Martin suffered from a broken arm which exacerbated pre-existing health conditions.

Del Martin and her longtime partner Phyllis Lyon spent a lifetime championing the rights of the LGBT community, founding the U.S.'s first major lesbian organization, Daughters of Bilitis, with six other women in 1970.

San Francisco's Lyon-Martin Health Services is named for the couple and "...provides personalized healthcare and support services to women and transgender people who lack access to quality care."

We're happy that Martin was with us long enough to marry Lyon in the city's first same-sex wedding to take place after the Supreme Court ruling legalizing gay marriage in California.

Feminism and the queer community have lost an important voice today. Show you appreciate all the ass-kicking she did on our behalf and make a donation to Lyon-Martin, won't you? --Andy Wright

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
