Martin Gee, one of the casualties of the San Jose Mercury News' batch of layoffs, has published a a few photos on flickr of himself making an, ahem, point about the state of the newspaper industry and the gutted Merc.

Here's the rest, and here's a longer story.

And here's a sign of the times, excerpted from a comment posted to Gee's flickr page: "Wow, just wow. What the hell is happening to journalism.Guess it is a good thing I switched teams (to PR, at the moment, who knows once I move to DC next month... the great jobless frontier once again) when I did. Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
