Sorry, but we found the scavenger hunt/nerd labyrinth/Fibonacci sequence or whatever it was that would reveal news about the much-anticipated new Boards of Canada album too tedious to follow. Details of the Scottish electronic duo's first record in eight years arrived online today in a much less arduous format: the press release. Tomorrow's Harvest will arrive June 11 via Warp, and is now available for preorder.
One little Boards of Canada mystery did strike our curiosity, however, and it has to do with the cover of Tomorrow's Harvest, which you can see above. Peer closely at the city skyline. Does it look familiar? If you've ever looked at San Francisco from Treasure Island (or a boat on the Bay), it ought to. Update, 3 p.m.: A keen reader in the comments points out that this is actually the view of S.F. from the former Alameda Naval Air Station. See photos below for comparison.
Update: Asked to comment on the possibility of McCartney at Outside Lands, a spokesperson for Another Planet Entertainment had only this to say: "We expect to announce the Outside Lands 2013 lineup in the coming weeks. Stay tuned."
Paul McCartney is going on tour this summer, and at least one concert info website says he'll be playing this year's Outside Lands festival. Via an anonymous tipper, check out this Last.fm page that says Macca, the great co-founder of the Beatles and a solo legend in his own right, will be playing our own Golden Gate Park this Sunday, Aug. 11.
It was barely seven months ago when we watched three young, skinny white girls storm San Francisco's SOM Bar -- oh, and the whole Internet -- with a catchy song about the perils of flaunting designer labels. But now the White Girl Mob appears to be on shaky ground: In a round of Twitter cat-fighting, it seems ringleader and "Gucci Gucci" girl Kreayshawn has given Lil Debbie the boot.
Best known as the sidekick in the "Gucci" video, Debbie was often billed as a DJ, despite not even attempting to play any tunes, and appeared to help with background vocals and fashion tips. The split hasn't been formally announced, but seems to have culminated with a series of tweets between Kreayshawn and Lil Debbie yesterday, Dec. 6. The most revealing one, which Kreayshawn sent to Lil Debbie, simply says, "I'm just saying you wanna act like a victim but the real reason why you got x'd is cuz you lied to me and used me for months."
Of course, it wasn't true: "Stop calling my phone," $hort finally tweeted on Nov. 22. "I'm not dead. Been in the lab working on my 19th album #NoTrespassing in stores Feb 2012." The man born Todd Anthony Shaw has been dealing with rumors of his premature passing on and off since the '90s. But this was probably the first time he's been able to use it for such effective promotion: $hort got a chance to remind people that he's very much alive -- in fact, he's playing a show at the New Parish in Oakland on Thursday night (Dec. 1).
Coachella 2012 is still more than four months away -- so naturally, it's time to start hyperventilating over rumored lineups for the first year the festival will stretch over two weekends. One "leaked" lineup appeared last week on StarzUncut, a celebrity gossip website with more than 58,000 Twitter followers. The website claims that "an inside source who works for Goldenvoice" leaked this image of what the lineup "may look like." While it notes that not all the artists are 100 percent confirmed, some artists like No Doubt and Radiohead have been reported elsewhere as committed to playing Coachella 2012. Check out the full "leaked" poster and a legible list of the rumored performers after the jump.
