Hannah Lew's Cold Beat Streams New EP and Video; Plays Tonight in Oakland

Grass Widow is on hiatus, but the ladies of the excellent and righteous S.F. post-punk trio are doing other good things. Cold Beat is the current project of Hannah Lew, a stark but catchy, noirish punk/pop band that celebrates the release of its debut EP tonight at the Night Light in Oakland. Said EP Worms/Year 5772 is streaming now at Rookie Mag. You should check out the moody black-and-white video for "Worms" below, too. Directed by Lew and Mike Stoltz, it's as alternately tense and giddy as the song itself:

The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
