It'll soon be Friday night, and aside from the whole list of great parties to hit this weekend, there's another worth putting on your radar: Over at the Lower Haight's underloved Underground SF, Chaz Bundick, chief freak behind chillwave titans Toro Y Moi, will be headlining the low-key monthly Push the Feeling party with a DJ set under his more club-focused alias, Les Sins.
Whereas Toro Y Moi earns its chillwave tag with lazy atmospheres and kicked-back grooves, Les Sins often employs a classic house beat (or some variation thereof) under a canopy of stuttering, spacey samples. The latest Les Sins track -- released last month -- is "Taken," which lingers a bit while building up to a subdued, cubist groove. Fans of Four Tet and Caribou (whose Dan Snaith is putting out Les Sins records these days) will find plenty to enjoy here. And while we hear Bundick is a Bay Area dweller of late, tonight's also a rare chance to catch him in a low-key, informal local club for, if not quite free, less than your hangover burrito will cost. Soon he'll be back touring as Toro Y Moi, and good luck finding him in this small a room then.
Here's the A-side of the new Les Sins single, "Fetch," followed by "Taken":
Les Sins aren't the only worthies at tonight's Push the Feeling, either. The party will feature a live set from vocal electronic duo Silver Hands, whose new song "Visions" conjures all sorts of late-night vibes:
The thing goes down at 9 p.m. tonight at Underground S.F., for the reasonable sum of $5.
