In addition to being a living monument to American writer Henry Miller, Big Sir's Henry Miller Memorial Library hosts numerous events near and dear to the hearts of Bay Area cultural types. Later this summer, for example, the serene bibliothèque will once again be the site of the two-day Woodsist Festival, where bands like Thee Oh Sees, The Fresh & Onlys, Real Estate, Woods and many others will perform over a weekend of rural bliss. (The festival is soooold out, too!)

But if the Henry Miller Library is going to continue to exist, it's going to need some help: This week, the festival's executive director announced that the organization needs to raise $140,000 by this fall to pay for facilities improvements required under federal law. To help gather the money, Phillip Glass and Joanna Newsom are performing at the Warfield on June 25 in a special fundraiser for the library.

Tickets for the show run $62.50 to $140 -- and we're inclined to expect that the performance alone will be worth it. But there are many other ways to support the library, all of which offer their own rewards.

In this week's letter, Executive Director Magnus Toren noted that this the first time the library has ever solicited donations from supporters on such a large scale. Since its founding in 1981, the library has subsisted on book sales, income from events, small donations, and and small grants.

But the magnitude of the required improvements, Toren says, necessitate this fundraising drive:

We need to modernize our water system and improve our bathroom facilities to meet federally-mandated health and safety requirements, including the Americans with Disabilities Act. Failure to comply with these regulations will force us to suspend the types of gatherings you've come to love: internationally renowned musicians and artists, our international short film screening series, the Big Sur Food and Wine Festival - the list goes on.

Check out how you can help the library. Tickets for the Phillip Glass/Joanna Newsom show are on sale now.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
