It didn't seem to bode well for Big Boi's scheduled Outside Lands performance that the Atlanta rapper (and OutKast member) was arrested only days before on drug charges in Miami. In the end, Big Boi didn't end up playing in S.F. on Friday as scheduled -- but the arrest had nothing to do with it.

Instead, a DJ's computer malfunction apparently forced the rapper to cancel his set, causing much grumbling among festivalgoers.

Big Boi's set, originally scheduled for 6:20 p.m., was pushed back to 7. This writer gave up in the midst of the wait and moved on to other performances, but according to those who stuck around the Sutro stage, Dave Chappelle briefly came out, "technical" issues were announced, and then Big Boi canceled altogether.

Here's what happened according to Outside Lands publicist Ken Weinstein:

Unfortunately, Big Boi had to cancel his performance due to the fact that his DJ had a computer malfunction. They tried to fix it but it got too close to Erykah Badu's set time and Big Boi wanted to respect that and his fans. Dave Chappelle was on hand to entertain the audience. Big Boi and his team were the utmost professional given the technical difficulties at hand, we look forward to working with him in the future.

And here's what Big Boi said about the cancellation on his website:

Given the circumstances, I couldn't play the type of show that the people deserved. It killed me to do it, but I decided it was best to maintain the integrity of my show and not perform at all. I appreciate the Outside Lands crew for their understanding and their cooperation in trying to make the show happen.

My apologies to all the fans who stood out in the field for all that time. You've all been great to me and I 'preciate your support. Rest assured, San Francisco, this ATLien will make it up to you. Save your ticket stubs from the festival. We'll do something special when I return.

In case you're wondering, Big Boi also says he returned his performance fee.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
