Local duo Mi Ami's transition from distorted fuzz rock to its new, more dance-oriented sound hasn't exactly been gentle. And judging by the quality solo work of member Daniel Martin-McCormick, who works under the moniker Ital, the shift  isn't all that surprising either. Ital's new single "One Hit" is about as dancey, minimal, and Euro as one can get -- and in this case, that's a good thing.

The song rides a repetitive, staccato synth line backed up by bouncy, four-on-the-floor drums. All in all, it's a pretty restrained affair (compared to his group work), with no huge buildup and flourish -- think Simian Mobile Disco with a smaller sound. But it's a quality, well-informed track that looks to dance music's past for inspiration.

"One Hit," which you can listen to here, is available on the "Ital's Theme" 12" single on Silk Records.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
