Rap impresario and motivational speaker Sean "Puff 'P. Diddy' Daddy" Combs wants you to have a festive, funky, and above all, thought-provoking Valentine's Day. Which is why he and his femmetourage Dirty Money have just released the eminently Kierkegaardian LoveLOVE vs. HateLOVE mixtape, a handful of new songs, unreleased cuts, and some boudoir-ready remixes of tracks from December's star-studded Last Train To Paris (which is, quoth Diddy, "the OFFICIAL album of Valentines Day!").
What to expect? Steamy, slightly electro-robotic jams with a collective vibe somewhere between Kanye circa 808s and Heartbreak and Kanye circa My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, with about the same amount of self-indulgence but a lot more irritating interstitial talking. Highlights include a song about listening to Sade ("Sade"), a lovelorn verse from Wiz Khalifa ("I Know") and a strung-out poetry slam intro from Lil Wayne ("Shades"), and the couplet "Yesterday I fell in love; today feels like my funeral / I just got hit by a bus; shouldn't have been so beautiful."
The choice is yours, young lover: you can download this and live the experience of making love to a beautiful stranger in the Japanese robotic toilet of the future, or you can get left behind in the gloomy, drizzle-soaked present. Choose wisely.
